Why people use it
University and SU in one feed
No more checking the Royal Holloway news page and the SU site separately. Both feeds combine into one chronological list that updates as articles get published.
Bookmark for later
Tap the bookmark icon on any article to save it. Your bookmarks live in one tab and survive across devices when you sign in with Apple or Google.
Filter by source
Filter the feed to just SU news, just university news, or both together. Useful in busy periods when one source is dominating the feed (exams, freshers, sabb elections).
Share in two taps
Found something your flatmates need to see? Share any article directly to iMessage, WhatsApp, or wherever your group chat lives, without leaving the app.
What people say

"Missed so many emails last year. This is way better for keeping up with what's going on."
"The SU news filter is great. I only care about that and now I don't scroll past everything else."
"Bookmarked a careers article and actually remembered to apply. Small things make a difference."
Frequently asked questions
Where does the news come from?
Articles are pulled from the official Royal Holloway news page on royalholloway.ac.uk and from the Students' Union news at su.rhul.ac.uk. The app checks both sources multiple times a day, so new articles appear in the feed shortly after they get published.
How quickly do new articles appear?
Usually within an hour or two of publication. The app polls both sources several times a day. For genuinely urgent announcements (campus closures, exam-period changes) it is sometimes faster to check the official source directly.
Will I get push notifications for new articles?
Not yet. Push notifications for news are on the roadmap. For now, the app shows new articles at the top of the feed when you open it, and unread articles are marked.
Can I read articles offline?
The list of articles loads when you have a connection. Bookmarked articles are remembered, but the article content itself loads when you tap in. Full offline reading is on the roadmap.
Can I filter by topic, not just by source?
By source for now (university or SU). Topic-level filtering is on the roadmap; in the meantime the bookmarked articles tab is a reasonable workaround if you want a personal feed.
Does it include The Tab RHUL or other student journalism?
Not currently. The feed covers official sources (the university and the SU). The Tab RHUL is a separate student-run publication; if it is something students want included, get in touch.
Can I see news while abroad on a year out?
Yes. The feed works anywhere you have internet. No region-locking. Useful for staying in the loop with what's happening at Royal Holloway while you're on an exchange or placement year.
Why not just check the websites?
You absolutely can. The app exists so that you don't have to flick between two different websites and remember which one you read last. One feed, bookmark what matters, share what your flatmates need to see.
